Mother Nature has not been kind this year. But despite her mercurial nature and persistent trickery, we have seen a few pops of spring color. Hopefully there are better days ahead, for both the weather….and the Blue Jays. (How can we have so many players off injured so early in the season?)

I think the crocus is my fave. I wonder if those white flowers all over my struggling back yard are snowdrops? I wish they were not where I have been trying to get grass to grow.

They could be. They can be invasive. My neighbour had a whole wildflower garden with lots of them, and the new neighbours tore the whole thing out, but the snowdrops survived and I see them pushing up through the grass.

We have the early trees blooming and some are pushing leaves. Most daffodils and the early spring flowers. My star magnolia is blooming but it got hit with a freeze last night and that usually makes it turn brown.

The azaleas are bursting out all over down here in the U.S. South (just in time for golf’s Masters right down the road from us). The vibrant colors defy the fact we’ve had a very dry spring so far.

We don’t have azaleas here, or not many of them? But do they come in pink? I can send you some of our rain – we got 3 inches in 2 hours last week and the corner of the backyard was flooded, so the daffodils got drowned out until it receded. Lots of people with water in their basements. Not mine fortunately.

Nice to see you and your beautiful flowers, Joni! My daffodils just refuse to bloom. But I have some phlox and a funky yellow-flowered mint—plus dandelions and other weeds! The mustards are booming this year.

Thanks Eilene! I thought I should post something. My daffodils seem to have disappeared, I planted 100 assorted bulbs two years ago and most of them didn’t come up. Too harsh a winter or hungry squirrels or both!

Your flowers are perky Joni, especially the Snowdrops and Crocuses. I’ve not been out walking in the neighborhood enough to see any flowers. Next door at Marge’s house there are some green leaves and what I think will be Daffodils, but that is about it. They are still buds, so I don’t really know. You are far ahead of us. It has been a long, slow crawl to Spring, but today while I was doing errands, I saw several lawn cutting services out as all the rain has made the grass green and already in need of cutting. Everyone here was excited for Justin Verlander to return after getting signed with his one-year contract after being away all those years. He was supposed to pitch on Easter Sunday but has been on the 15-day disabled list before he even got a chance.

The flowers are in south facing or sheltered spots. Sometimes crocus can appear in late Feb, but not this year. Yea Jays won! Finally last night 4-3 against LA the team that beat them in the world series – it was a last minute rally nail biter, but ended their 5 or 6 game losing streak. 4 or 5 of the jays pitchers never got started either – they must have had problems in spring training? And the main catcher Kirk fractured his thumb and will be out for 6 weeks. My grass is green and growing, but my lawncutter never starts until May.

Okay, that is why. I always see Snowdrops under a homeowner’s tree enroute to the Park. They were there this year, but not the Crocuses last time I looked. We had rain this morning, but I have been hearing mowers all afternoon/early evening as we have rain coming up for an entire week, with the exception of Saturday, but heavy rain tomorrow so it will be a soggy Saturday. Weather for ducks. That’s great the Jays won – I don’t follow sports except what I hear on the news report or what pre-empts my radio news, but the Tigers are 4-9.

I know, it was beautiful today. I went out for a walk at Heritage Park, the first time out this Spring. It was chilly, but warmed up from the sun. I was overdressed in sweats. I came home and uploaded my pics and wrote a draft of my walk – I’ve done posts through Mother’s Day, so it will be for May 17th. I’m not enthused about Sunday through Friday rain here – rain is bad enough, but once again we have severe weather is in the forecast for Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. After last Saturday’s tornado in our county, about 23 miles away, I am spooked more than usual. The weather folks keep saying “we get a lot of severe weather in the Springtime” but I don’t recall that at all – it was in the Summertime and hot weather. We will be 80 on Tuesday.
