#A Change of Seasons – Wordless Wednesday

And then in the blink of an eye the seasons have changed….

One minute we’re enjoying summer’s last hurrah……one blue morning glory.

The next, the leaves are starting to change…

….to the full glory of an autumn blaze.

Halloween night was nice for the ghosts and goblins….

And my favourite, this animated bride of Frankenstein.

Then the leaves started to fall…..

Could that be wet snow outside the window? Before November 11?

Woke to this and three days of zero degree temperatures and howling winds which brought the rest of the leaves down into a soggy mess.

Me – screaming in protest – No, no! It’s much too soon!

Winter, winter go away, come back another day……like in January.

The snow has melted and we’re back to just leaves this morning….leaves which need to be mowed up. While it’s not unusual to see a few flurries around Remembrance Day we don’t usually get measurable snow until December or sometimes even Christmas. Which I prefer as it shortens the winter up.

This is cute Joni – not so cute was the cold weather and snow though. I agree. We had it too. Our cold weather last Sunday turned the rain to freezing rain briefly, then snow. The first snow blew away but the second snow lingered. It was icy at the Park … just the beginning of what is on the way. It was gorgeous the past few days, almost 60 but this ever-present wind is annoying.

We had a very gusty day today – when I left the house to walk it was 15 mph which was not horribly bad, but walking home it was 25 mph winds. I came inside and checked as it had picked up that much. We can’t rake out leaves to the street and must bag them, however, a new neighbor down the street, either didn’t know about that ordinance (you’ll get fined by the ordinance officer if they catch you), or he doesn’t work weekends likely. She raked them to the street yesterday – today my lawn was covered. We’re having weather like last Sunday/Monday again, possibly Tuesday, with freezing rain/light snow … I hope it fizzles out.

I don’t like the wind either, it makes walking even colder, but I forced myself to go out the past few days. It looks quieter today but the air has that November chill to it. I think we are just supposed to get rain tomorrow, maybe a few flurries overnight.

The wind is no treat, that’s for sure. We were supposed to have snow flurries, but that didn’t materialize, but we did have freezing rain this morning. I went out to run the car as I knew it was coming … went outside it was dry and thought “maybe I should walk in the neighborhood” (not going to the Park as that’s two miles round trip) and by the time I came out of the garage, I could hear the freezing rain pinging. On weatherman says bad weather the tail end of Thanksgiving and the other weatherman says mild weather through December 4th. I like that latter forecast better.

It’s gorgeous here today, sunny and mild, but last night when I looked out it was wet snow. Our forecast is milder for the next two weeks, so I’m happy. I don’t like to see snow before Christmas.

I’m still trying to get as many steps in as I can – I’m sorry I slacked off in the Summer now and I knew I would regret it down the road. The first full year I set a walking goal for myself, we had snow throughout December and so I was just walking in the neighborhoods then, having not discovered Council Point Park yet, so I went two blocks over to another park which has a huge parking lot it shares with a church and walked there where it was salted, plowed and walked around the perimeter many, many times to get it done.

It is an option Joni and I will do that again as I can walk on the snowy grass if need be – if the streets aren’t slick to get there, just like a block and a half away. They have a big Christmas display at the community building every year, so from Thanksgiving through Christmas, they plow the lot seven days a week and the church does the rest of the time for Sunday services, so I can luck out that way.

My favorite image? Either the morning glory or the thirty seconds of screaming LOL. I get it though. Our leaves are just starting to fall so the mulching will be an every-other day thing now. Seems late to be honest, so I predict I’ll be mulching into the new year. As much as I wouldn’t want a snowstorm, at least it’d bring the leaves down in one fell swoop!

So there’s a happy ending—at least for now! Enjoy it while it lasts.

Love that gorgeous tree. We have a child maple that the town—planting new trees to replace diseased elders—promised would be blazing, but reneged.
