Thanks Jo. I was working on a photo blog for next week and thought these would be good for a Wordless Wednesday. It’s surprising how close they let me get, so I suspect they are used to the attention.
I love this series of photos and your captions too Joni. It seems your feathered friend is fickle. He’ll pose for so long, then you have no little fishy or delicious baked good to offer him, so you’re yesterday’s news! 🙂 I like pushing the envelope with seagulls as they are usually cooperative, then they have had enough of me invading their personal space and suddenly off they go!
They prefer the french fries at this venue as there is a chip truck nearby, but MacDonalds are their favourites. I sometimes take my takeout there to watch them and give them a few leftovers….
We are such suckers aren’t we Joni? I used to take oyster crackers and scatter them and they’d all come hightailing it over. For years my mom and I went to A&W for their coneys, curly fries and onion rings. It was a large A&W and had a roof over the center portion of the parking lot – we always aimed to park there. The seagulls were no dummies … as soon as people got their order they would be buzzing around. We would give them treats to get them to move on to the next people that the carhop was delivering their meal. You could not leave your food on the tray – in fact the car hop stayed right there til you could pull it into the car.
I know it – they would fly under the roof which went down the middle and if no one had handouts, they would go to the outside part of the parking lot on either side and pester them!
I had a fairly cooperative subject….I was surprised how close he let me come, but they are used to people with french fries from the nearby chip trucks, so there are rewards for being on the red carpet!
I delighted in your photo cut lines. Really made me chuckle as they’re so apt to the particular pose.

The buzz off! was related to your ability to get so close: you failed in the “feed me now!!” department.

I agree…..I didn’t have any french fries, which is their preferred food source.

As much of a nuisance seagulls are, I think they are absolutely beautiful! I love your pictures Joni!

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that close to a seagull. And now I won’t have to. 🙂
