Thanks Annie….from one Annie to another! I like the heather too, anything with vibrant color. We have shown those before, that’s why they’re framed. Her May show was cancelled, but I’m only semi-disappointed. The curator left last fall and didn’t leave them a monthly schedule, so they already had it filled in for this year, so they put us back on the list for next year. It was only a small gallery, but even that is a lot of work, when we’re really just starting to pull out of the pandemic. The only reason I had agreed to it was because it was in her hometown, which is a fair drive away.
The first painting really spoke to me, but the final one tickled me! That’s no painting ~ that’s a real leprechaun! Remember to whisk him away before pouring the Irish coffee.
Thanks Jo! I like the oil painting too. Someone I worked with gave me that leprechaun many years ago, and it’s come in handy many times since. We will not be having corned beef and cabbage – yuck!
I love all the paintings by your mom and there are quite a variety of Irish houses, and stone fences – none look alike. It reminds me a little of Darrowby and the dales with the green grass and the stone fences separating farms. I like the heather pictures too. Your leprechaun is cute in the Irish coffee cup. They are trying to get a Guinness world record broken as to Irish coffee here in Michigan. I’ll send a separate comment with the link so you can see how many ingredients go in this huge Irish coffee.
Thanks Linda! Sitting here watching the war news….so sad. It was so warm today I walked without a coat for the first time….almost too much of a change too fast.
The war news is very sad. Yesterday I heard the interview with the man who was visiting with his mother in another city and was hesitant to leave his wife and two children. His wife said “we’ll be fine – go.” So there was mortar shelling and they ran from the house … wife and kids were shot in the street. He was watching Twitter videos about the war and recognized his kids’ clothing – their faces were not shown. He contacted a neighbor and asked that their bodies be removed from the street until he could return. You might have seen that on CNN – the story was on the radio but there was an interview where the CNN news anchor lost her composure while interviewing him. Yes the weather is wacky for sure isn’t it Joni? We had a nice day again today, not as warm as yesterday – we got to 73 with a real-feel of 74 and now an inch of rain, maybe turning into a wintry mix the last day of Winter.
I heard about that sad situation but didn’t see the interview on CNN – I try not to watch it too much, but mom has it on at night with Anderson Cooper and Don Lennon. Today was back to cool again when I walked, so it’s not spring yet!
Yes, it was very sad Joni and he was stoic in the interview while the CNN reporter broke down. I’ve been watching snippets on Twitter as it is real-time stories and videos. They have a warning if it will be too graphic as it seems as to death and destruction, there are no holds barred in what is reported on all the media outlets on Twitter. Yes, Friday was back to coolish again here too and today was just an ugly day from start to finish. Not happy that it will be a rainy Spring, according to their three-month forecast.
I don’t do Twitter, and if you don’t have an account I think you can’t view much, but I could be wrong. Rained all day here too. I had not heard that about the forecast, but it doesn’t surprise me.
I only follow news stations and the weather. I was following a nature site of a a birder who went to a metropark and took videos of birds, even woodpeckers, landing on her palm of her hand to eat. She used an iPhone to take the videos. The problem with Twitter is if you like something like “birding” all kinds of stuff goes into your feed so it was impossible to find the news/weather, so I unfollowed her. We had rainy Springs the last two years … another rainy Spring which will mean soggy parks. Luckily Council Point Park is higher than the Creek so it never floods and it also is paved, so I only stray off to go under the tree. I went to the grocery store today, something I try not to do on a weekend, but they remodeled and were still remodeling when I was last there in late October. I got there once the rain stopped (we had rain earlier morning) and it was crowded. I saw five people masked up and they were elderly. I was masked up, but rest of the crowd, clerks, stockpersons, cashiers, etc., all without masks and now this BA.2 Omicron variant is in Michigan. Great.
Wow, that is amazing, so many people without masks? All thinking they are protected? I’m really having a hard time comprehending that… I suppose the next thing is they will start to make fun of those wearing masks.
I’m sure that will happen Joni … yesterday I saw some people giving me looks, like I was an oddity, but I am wearing it anyway, even to the Park as one woman got vaxxed, not boosted and questions why she did that. She is adamant that COVID shots are harmful. I heard Dr. Fauci say today that here in the U.S., only 65% of people are vaxxed; only 50% boosted, so we have to do better.
Heard another story about this new BA.2 variant – Dr. Fauci said there will be a big uptick as people feel COVID is over or at least waning and so “no worries”. Right. It’s flourishing in Europe and UK and a matter of time before it arrives here in full force. We have cases in Michigan, so I will stay masked up, even at the Park (besides … it’s allergy season and I’ve already been sneezing, so time to go on the Alavert along with my shots this Thursday).
PS. I haven’t slept well the past few nights due to all the visual images from the war, so tomorrow night I think we’ll try and find a movie to watch. The world is a sad place lately…..and now with all this COVID stuff starting up again…….very worrisome.

I heard this new variant is not as bad as Omicron (if you’ve had shots/booster), but is more transmissible.

Mom buys this Irish Coffee flavored Skinny Cow artificial flavoring for adding to coffee but I find it way too sweet and fake tasting…..full of chemicals. Happy St. Patrick’s day!

I buy a powder coffee creamer – my favorite is Coffee Mate, Powder Coffee Creamer, Sugar Free, Vanilla Caramel. I also use Hazelnut and Vanilla powdered creamer which are good, but I prefer the Vanilla Caramel.

When I watched “Mad Men” I came here after work and did comments but did not do Reader and went straight to “Mad Men”. Did you hear that Amazon was granted permission to acquire all the MGM films and TV shows? That will be 4,000 film titles and 17,000 TV episodes. That will be nice … I wonder how many I will see and if all will be free? Some of the Amazon Prime movies you can see free – some you have to pay for. They didn’t say when the Amazon Prime subscribers will be able to watch these MGM shows. I am looking forward to having more time to myself once I’m retired … I can’t tell you how much. I was hoping it was 2022; now, I’m not even sure it will be 2023.
I think I need to join Amazon Prime, as I am not finding much on Netflix, and people had warned me about that. I don’t have an Amazon Button on my remote or smart tv, so it would probably mean downloading a program onto the smart tv, which is beyond me.
I would not even know how to use a smart TV … you could watch it on your laptop, but the laptop screen might not be big enough for both you and your mom to watch without giving you eyestrain. Too bad you didn’t subscribe to Amazon Prime in early February before they raised the price $20.00. That’s a lot of MGM films, though I don’t know what TV shows were MGM shows, but I just looked and will send it to you in a separate comment.
My laptop only has a 13 inch screen, mom can hardly see it when I show her photos. I’ll get someone to help me update the smart tv one of these days. I’m in no rush to add more tv viewing time once the weather starts to get nice. I did watch season two of Sanditon tonight, and it was awful – such poor casting, such ugly men…..there’s only 2 or 3 characters I liked last season who were good actors and suited their roles – the rest no. Not sure I will bother to tune in next week – the Oscars are on next Sunday anyway.
My Windows 7 laptop is small – someday, when I get acclimated to the Windows 10 laptop, it will be a treat for my eyes as it’s much bigger … but till then my eyes are tired by the time I sign off and head to bed. I sent you a picture to show your mom – I hope she can see it well enough.
I look at the Windows 10 on the stove, but have no inclination to do more than do virus scans and Windows updates (which take hours and hours sometimes to do). I am dragging my feet on it – work is difficult enough without throwing more into the fray. My original laptop is 11 years old, bought in 2009. I’ve had luck with HP computers, Dell not so much. The Windows 10 is a Dell.
I’ve had both, but currently have an Asus. I wanted the smaller screen, so it’s more like an Ipad size, but I don’t like swiping. If you can type as fast as we can, why would you want to swipe?
I agree with you Joni. I don’t like the swiping either and I am not enamored with all the bells and whistles Windows 10 has. I like Windows 7 which I’ve been using since 2009. Agreed – we type pretty fast. Probably the single most-important class I took in 9th grade was typing as I’ve used it the most.
I took typing class for four years, as we weren’t allowed to have spares, so I type really fast. The older years had to do with more with secretarial skills, typing letters and such. I used to occasionally lock the older type keyboards. We typed to music, and the faster the music the faster we typed!
My mom had a black Royal typewriter in a small carrying case and I used that manual typewriter throughout high school and part of college, then they bought me a non-electric typewriter when I had ribbon-spooling issues with the Royal. Using a non-electric, old-type keyboards, we could go like the wind and swing that carriage handle at the end of each sentence … a rhythm and cadence to the typing process. I don’t recall if I ever typed to music but I can see how it would make you go faster! My speed has improved since I got the Logitech wireless keyboard – it has a great touch and you barely touch the keys.
Thanks Doug. People often say that, her paintings make them feel happy. I put this on the back of her art cards, “Her brush re-creates the simple beauty of the world around us in happy colors” as one of my friends for whom English was a second language said, and it’s true.
If it’s Ireland, there must be sheep (and heather). When we visited several years ago, our tour guide asked us what animal Ireland has more of than sheep. Cows! Who knew? Stumped the whole busload of us.
The paintings are lovely, as always. That is a talent I wish I had. Oh well, I was content to commemorate St. Patrick by dining on corned beef, cabbage and potatoes, washed down with a Guinness.

PS. I think they are trialing Windows 11 already? My computer is from 2016, so six years old already, and Windows 10 was just out when I bought it.
